We love copying what works
5am workouts, cold showers, 90-minute deep work. Why borrowed habits often miss, and how to start simple.
We love copying what works.
Someone swears by 5am workouts. Another thrives on cold showers. A third blocks 90-minute deep work sessions.
So we try it. And sometimes… it doesn’t land.
Just because it was designed for an average person who doesn’t exist.
The most effective habits fit your actual biology and patterns. And finding them doesn’t require expensive tech.
It’s the same logic as running: “I’ll start once I buy proper shoes.” But you can just… start.
With tracking yourself you can also start with something simple:
- Welltory: phone camera, 2 minutes, see your HRV and stress. No wearable.
- For women: cycle tracking. Affects energy more than you think.
- For everybody: a notebook and three questions every evening: How did I feel? What gave energy? What drained it?
That last one works as well as any tracker. You finally notice patterns that were always there.
Your data doesn’t have to be sophisticated. Start simple. Notice what’s actually happening.
